Itinerary: Wadi Rum Camel Ride + Overnight Experience
Your camels will be waiting for you at the edge of the Wadi Rum village, where civilization ends and the vast desert begins…
ARRIVAL IN THE WADI RUM VILLAGE
Our Wadi Rum Camel Tour starts in the morning from the Wadi Rum Rest House. It is the first building and parking lot on your right when you reach the Wadi Rum Village.
If you have a rental car, you can park it at this location during the tour. Click here to see the location of the Wadi Rum Rest House on Open Street Maps.
The Wadi Rum Rest House is a few kilometres past the Wadi Rum Visitor Centre where you must pay the entrance fees to Wadi Rum (5 JOD per person or free with the Jordan Pass).
We recommend that you arrive between 9:00 and 10:00.
Explore the Wadi Rum desert on camelback, the way the Bedouins have for millennia…
Full-day Camel Tour in the Wadi Rum Desert
From the Wadi Rum Rest House, we will drive you to the edge of the Wadi Rum village, where civilization ends and the vast desert begins.
Here, you will meet your camels and local Bedouin guide.
Rest assured that your guide will also have his own camel. He will not walk alongside the camels as you might see in photos online.
Once you meet your guide and your camel, you will start your Camel Tour in the Wadi Rum desert.
Do not be worried if you have never ridden a camel before. For most people, doing this Wadi Rum Camel Tour with us is there first time seeing or riding a camel.
The Camel Tour will stop at several of the famous and beautiful sites in Wadi Rum (you can see the full list below).
At each site, you will have a chance to get off of your camel, explore the site on foot, take plenty of photos, do some short walks, and more.
During the day, the tour will stop in a shady place to have a lunch made with local ingredients.
The Wadi Rum Nature Tours camp is perfectly located on the eastern side of Jebel Khazaki.
EVENING AND OVERNIGHT in the Desert
After the Wadi Rum Camel Tour, we will drive you to the place where you will stay overnight.
You can choose between:
Sleeping at our Fixed Camp
Sleeping Under the Stars.
At our fixed camp, we have tents for 2, 3, and 4 people. We have standard tents as well as new tents with en-suite bathrooms.
For dinner, we will serve a traditional meal made with local ingredients. Our dinner is served as a buffet with many dishes suitable for guests with dietary restrictions.
After dinner, you can enjoy a relaxing evening drinking Bedouin tea and learning about life in the desert before going to sleep.
At night, many of our guests enjoy going for a short walk in the desert. If you walk 5-10 minutes away from the camp you will have an amazing view of the starry desert sky.
When the moon isn’t too bright, it is sometimes possible to see the Milky Way.
In the next section, we will provide more information about our accommodation options with plenty of photos.
We serve dinner and breakfast in the large central tent at our camp.
BREAKFAST AND RETURN TO THE WADI RUM VILLAGE
We serve breakfast in the morning around 7:30 AM. Breakfast is served as a buffet including coffee, Bedouin tea, eggs, pita, jam, cheese, zaatar, halva, and more.
After breakfast, we will drive you back to the Wadi Rum Village between 8:00 AM and 9:00 AM.
Overnight Stay After Your Wadi Rum Camel Tour
In this section, we provide a quick overview of our accommodation options. If you are interested in reading more about our accommodation options, please click here.
We offer two accommodation options with our tours.
OPTION 1: SLEEPING AT OUR DESERT CAMP
At our camp, we have private tents for sleeping with proper beds so that you can have a comfortable sleep.
We serve dinner and breakfast in a large central tent where you can relax during the evening before going to sleep.
Our camp has two types of tents:
Standard Tents
Upgraded Tents with En-Suite Bathrooms.
The standard tents come in four different sizes: one double bed, two single beds, three single beds, and four single beds. With the standard tents, you will have access to our shared bathroom facility with western toilets and warm showers.
The upgraded tents with en-suite bathrooms have a king-sized bed and a private bathroom. You can see some photos of these tents by clicking here. It is possible to replace the king-sized bed in these tents with two single beds or three single beds.
Please let us know which beds you would like when making your reservation.
In this photo you can see what three of our upgraded tents with king-sized beds and private bathrooms look like on the outside.
In this photo, you can see what the bedroom area looks like in our upgraded tents with private bathrooms.
This is what the bathroom looks like in our upgraded tents including toilet, sink, and shower.
Meals are served in our large central tent, protected from the wind and the sun by the cliffs of Jabal Khazali.
For sleeping under the stars, we will provide you with a mat, mattress, and plenty of warm and heavy blankets. You will sleep in the open air beneath the stars.
OPTION 2: SLEEP UNDER THE STARS
When you decide to sleep under the stars, after sunset your guide will take you to an isolated area deep in Wadi Rum away from the camps.
The location is not the same each time. Each guide has his own favourite locations and he will select the best place for your group according to the time of year and the weather. If it is windy, your guide will take you to a sheltered area to ensure a comfortable night in the desert.
Once you arrive at your sleeping destination, your guide will prepare dinner and tasty Bedouin tea over the campfire.
After dinner, you can relax around the fire and hear stories about the desert or simply sit back and enjoy the starry night sky and the silence of the desert.
For sleeping, we will provide you with a mattress and warm, heavy blankets. You will sleep in the open air beneath the stars.
It is possible to sleep under the stars all year round, even in winter when the temperature can be between 0-5°C at night. We will provide you with plenty of warm and heavy blankets for sleeping and we always have more available in case you are cold.
Sharing a glass of Bedouin tea prepared over the campfire is an important part of the local culture.
When the moon is not too bright, it is possible to see the Milky Way on your stay in Wadi Rum.
