Overnight in the Wadi Rum Desert
Staying overnight in Wadi Rum is not only about where you sleep. It is about what kind of experience you want to have in the desert.
There are many overnight options in Wadi Rum, including large camps and luxury bubble tents. Each offers something different. This page is here to help you understand whether our approach is the right one for you.
Many camps in Wadi Rum focus on comfort, design, and amenities. Our focus is different.
We keep things simple so that the desert itself remains the main presence. Nights are quiet. Light is minimal. There is space to sit, to look at the sky, and to feel the change that happens when the desert empties out after sunset.
If your priority is privacy, silence, and atmosphere rather than facilities, our way of staying overnight may suit you well.
The Wadi Rum Nature Tours camp is located in a sheltered area next to Jabal Khazali, in the heart of the Wadi Rum Protected Area.
Staying with us overnight means:
A quiet environment with few people
Simple accommodation focused on rest and atmosphere
Very little artificial light
A slower, unstructured evening
It also means:
No luxury facilities
No large entertainment areas
No busy or crowded camp setting
Many guests choose to stay with us because they want something that feels real rather than curated.
They are less interested in comfort as a feature, and more interested in the feeling of being in the desert at night - the silence, the stars, and the sense of distance from everyday life.
“Truly amazing place. Spacious, clean, friendly and great location, good food. Located at entry of small canyon which made it very impressive. ”
We offer two types of desert accommodation with our tours:
Wadi Rum desert camp with Comfortable Bedouin tents
The Wadi Rum Nature Tours camp is located approximately 10 km from the Wadi Rum Village. It is located in a sheltered area, tucked in close to the steep cliffs on the eastern side of Jabal Khazali.
Our camp is protected from the wind in the winter and is shaded early in the day in the summer making it a very comfortable location throughout the year. This is a quiet area in Wadi Rum and there are not many other camps nearby.
Our camp is fitted with electricity via solar panels. There is no Wi-Fi at our camp and we are outside of the range of the cell phone tower located in the village.
This provides our guests with a peaceful stay away from the constant distractions of the modern world.
When our camp is fully booked it can fit a maximum of 40 guests. This makes us one of the smaller camps, ensuring you a peaceful stay in the desert.
Our standard tents are located close to the large communal tent. The tents with en-suite bathrooms were build more recently and are located a bit further away.
At our camp, there are four types of buildings and tents :
Large central tent
Private tents for sleeping
Shared bathroom and shower facility
Kitchen
Our private tents for sleeping come in two types:
Standard tents
Tents with en-suite bathrooms
Bedouin Tents with private bathrooms 23>
Our tents with en-suite bathrooms were built in 2022 and 2023. You can see the inside and outside of these new tents in the photos below.
These tents have larger beds (king-sized) and come with an en-suite bathroom. It is possible to replace the king-sized bed with three single beds if you are a group of three people.
The tents have electric lighting and outlets to charge your electronic devices.

Standard Bedouin Tents
Our standard tents can accommodate two, three, or four people.
The double tents come in two varieties; tent with one double bed or tent with two single beds. You can see a standard tent with one double bed in the photos below.
Our tents for three people and four people have all single beds.
All of our tents have comfortable beds for sleeping and plenty of warm blankets in case it is cold during the night.
The tents have electric lighting and outlets to charge your electronic devices.
The outer layer of the tents is made with goat hair, the material used by the Bedouins for centuries. On your tour in the Wadi Rum desert, you may see some traditional Bedouin tents made out of this same material. Some of the Bedouins in Wadi Rum continue to lead a nomadic lifestyle, at least for part of the year.
Our shared bathroom and shower facility has several stalls with showers and several with western toilets. The water is heated with solar panels.
On sunny days, there is plenty of hot water but please note that on overcast days and rainy days, the supply of hot water is limited. Such is life in the desert!

Our large communal tent is where we serve dinner and breakfast.
After the sunset each day we start a fire in our central fireplace and prepare tasty Bedouin tea to be served before dinner.
We serve dinner as a buffet, with plenty of dishes made with local ingredients. Guests are welcome to eat as much as they like.
In the morning, breakfast is served between 7:00 and 8:00 AM. Breakfast is also served as a buffet.

Sleep in the Open Air beneath the stars
Sharing a glass of sweet Bedouin tea prepared over the fire is an important part of the local culture.
The second overnight option we offer with our tours is to spend a night sleeping under the stars.
After the sunset, your guide will take you far into the desert, away from the light of the camps and the village, where you will be surrounded by the beauty of the desert.
The location for sleeping under the stars is not fixed; your guide will choose the location based on the time of year and the weather. For example, if it is windy, your guide will select a more sheltered location.
After sunset, your guide will begin preparing a campfire in order to prepare dinner and Bedouin tea. Sharing a glass of sweet Bedouin tea is an important part of the local culture.

While you are busy enjoying your tea, your guide will continue tending to the fire and preparing dinner. Dinner will be a variety of dishes prepared from local ingredients. You will eat well with us in the desert.

Your guide will stay with you throughout the night.
“Great cooked meals and sleeping under the stars was fantastic. The fire, good shelter and thick blankets meant we were hot at night too!
”
Sleeping under the stars is best suited in the warmer months, but can be done at any time of the year. We often have guests sleep under the stars comfortably during the middle of winter when it is 0-5°C at night.
If you stay in Wadi Rum for multiple nights, it is possible to sleep in a new location each night.
Many people hesitate about sleeping under the stars, but our guests who decide to do it often say it was their most memorable experience on their trip to Jordan.
For sleeping, we will provide you with a mat, mattress, and plenty of warm and heavy blankets.

Authentic Bedouin meals
We often serve zarb at our camp at night. In this photo, our chef is removing zarb from the oven beneath the sand. The meat and vegetables are perfectly cooked after roasting under the sand for several hours.
All of our meals are cooked fresh with local, quality ingredients.
Our breakfast typically includes eggs, cheese, jam, bread, fruit, zaatar, halva, tea, coffee, and more.
Lunch is not served at our camp. Lunch is served in the desert during your tour.
Lunch typically consists of cooked vegetables, salads, tuna, cheese, fruit, bread and tea. Depending on the tour, a box lunch may be provided if there is no opportunity to cook.
Dinner is served at the camp and may include chicken, mansef (meat with rice on top of bread), zarb, barbeque, rice, soup, vegetables, salads, bread, fruit and tea or coffee.
Zarb is a local dish and is made in a unique Bedouin oven. It is constructed by digging a hole in the sand and building a fire inside. Once the fire is burned down to the coals, the meat and vegetables are covered and placed over the embers. Finally, the meat and vegetables are covered and buried in the sand and left to slow cook. The result is a delicious, tender, juicy meat.
If you have any special dietary needs please notify us upon booking so arrangements can be made.
